Fwd: Fun for fun’s sake
Letters to Perfectionism #90
Dear Perfectionism,
I wonder - how we can keep things fun?
I’ve noticed it’s really easy for us to suck the joy out of anything and quickly turn it into a chore.
Like that new camera we messed about with. Within days it was “I should use this properly,” and it became all sacred and serious with its special, protective little bag and me reading really dull books about the mechanics photography. Another job.
Remember that wave machine we built at school for Mrs Hall?
It was a tray, a block of wood, a few thread-reels and some string. We were so proud of it as it plopped up and down - moving the water. I felt like a true scientist, an adventurer.
It was fun building it for fun’s sake. Play. Just exploring because that alone felt good.
I know we can do this - stay curious for a little while longer.
Love, Chris x
